About this procedure

The certificate of nationality proves Iraqi citizenship and is still required for a number of legal transactions, even where the Unified National ID Card has been issued.

Replacement of a lost certificate requires a police report before the application can be accepted.

Steps to follow

  1. Prepare supporting documents

Bring the family record book, your civil identity card and two recent passport photographs.

  2. File a police report if replacing a lost certificate

A loss report from your local police station must be attached to the application.

  3. Submit and pay

The registrar checks your entry against the civil register and issues a payment slip for the certificate fee.

  4. Collect the certificate

Certificates are released against the payment slip and the applicant's identity card.
