About this procedure
A tax clearance certificate confirms that an individual or company has settled all assessed taxes up to the date of issue. It is valid for the period stated on its face, usually ninety days.
Steps to follow
File all outstanding returns
The commission will not begin the review until every annual return for the relevant years has been filed.
Request the clearance in writing
Submit the request naming the purpose — tender, ownership transfer or departure — as the wording of the certificate depends on it.
Settle any assessed balance
The assessment section issues a statement; payment is made at the commission's bank counter.
Collect the certificate
The certificate is signed by the section head and stamped with the commission's seal.
