About this procedure
An Iraqi passport is valid for eight years for adults and four years for children under fifteen. You may apply to renew it at any time within the last twelve months of validity, or after it has expired.
Renewal is handled in person at a passport directorate. The applicant must attend so that fingerprints and a facial photograph can be captured.
Steps to follow
Book an appointment
Reserve a slot through the Passports Directorate portal or the service kiosk at the directorate. Walk-in applications are accepted only for urgent travel.
Gather the required documents
Bring your current passport, the Unified National ID Card (or the Civil ID plus Nationality Certificate), and a recent residence card.
Attend biometric capture
At the counter your photograph and all ten fingerprints are recorded. Children under twelve are exempt from fingerprinting.
Pay the issuance fee
The renewal fee is paid at the bank counter inside the directorate. Keep the stamped receipt — it is required at collection.
Collect the new passport
Return with the receipt on the date printed on it, or request courier delivery to your registered address for an extra charge.
